Amend 9.8

Query why the removal of anchor Dept stores at street level is being proposed ?
We support the active support for smaller, independent traders and shops in the Tallaght LAP area. However, as is clear to see in Tallaght Cross, Belgard Square and New Bancroft, ground level units are remaining vacant for long periods of time. And in many cases, then are subject to a change of use application to residential, citing the lack of demand for retail space.
Whether deliberate or organic, the net result is the street level activity is not delivered in what should be the thriving County Town.

If the primary goal is to have a vibrant street at ground level along a main street, and the only feasible retail option is a Dept store, why is that now prohibited, only to left with a vacant unit at ground level or a residential unit that doesn't contribute sufficient footfall to the street activity.

Amend EDE21 Objective 4 from:

We wish the final amend to Read:

To implement signage in the County in accordance with the Tourism and Signage Strategies for the County, to include consideration of information signage on nature, geology and other features to be found along the rivers in the County at strategic locations and at other strategic locations within the County, consulting with local communities.

We are suggesting local communities be involved as local knowledge will often be richer than central resources.
