Dear SDCC,

The Clondalkin Local Transport plan (policy 7.7.1 and 7.7.2) talks about .. "reducing the priority of private vehicles in the village centre" and .. "reducing the dominance of the car in the village centre".

Private Vehicles are a necessity for many families in daily life who rely on their car for many reasons, be it to carry their shopping, carry children to school and after-school activities , for elderly and disabled people who rely on a car to get out and about around the village.

Observations

private cars are a necessity for many people in daily life

The Clondalkin Local Transport plan (policy 7.7.1 and 7.7.2) talks about .. "reducing the priority of private vehicles in the village centre" and .. "reducing the dominance of the car in the village centre".

Private Vehicles are a necessity for many families in daily life who rely on their car for many reasons, be it to carry their shopping, carry children to school and after-school activities, for elderly and disabled people who rely on a car to get out and about around the village.

The Local Transport plan which aims to close off certain routes around the village as well as reducing road widths and junction sizes will make it extremely difficult for many people to live quality lives as their car becomes a burden to use rather than an asset due to the inconvenience being placed on their travel under the transport plan.

Its important to point out that most cars now have very low emissions and many are electric so this plan will make no significant difference to carbon emissions in clondalkin, it will only make family life more difficult for people who are already under pressure from cost of living increases and carbon tax increases.

I would urge South Dublin County Council to really think about the consequences the transport plan will have on the daily life of ordinary people in clondalkin and re-think these transport proposals.

Kind Regards,

Ronan Duffy
