Comments of Clondalkin Local Planning Framework

I live in Floraville Avenue in the village and am primarily concerned with proposals to open a cycle / walkway from GAA grounds through Floraville estate. To open the estate up in this way does nothing to promote walking or cycling as Monastery road remains the most direct route to the village. There is already a walkway open from Floraville to Colaiste Brid on school days and during school times. To open up new routes through the estate and to have them open 24 / 7 would invite all manner of antisocial behaviour which would be nigh impossible for An Garda to police. That is not to mention also that these proposed openings would invite use by people travelling by e-bike and e-scooter which would bring further health and safety issues for older and younger residents in Floraville and other areas. These users are best kept on the roads.

My other observation is in relation to the ongoing location of SIAC in an area that is Zoned Z1 (Residential) by SDCC. They continue to carry out their extremely noisy and pollutant business purely by dint of the fact that their presence pre-dates the 1963 Planning Act. That area of land should be reclaimed as Z1 proper and should act as a buffer between the village and the Naas Road in terms of noise and pollution. Instead SIAC adds to both, with noisy night time works ongoing most of the year and terrible smells and pollutants/dust in the air throughout the year. This is not sustainable, particularly as the GAA grounds are right beside it and it is bound to have harmful effects on the kids playing there. SDCC should negotiate with SIAC to relocate to a more suitable site away from residential areas. I find it very surprising that there is no mention of this in the Draft LPF. When I raised this during consultation around the Decarbonising Zone, it was completely ignored. If SDCC wants to be taken seriously in it's attempt at 'placemaking' moving SIAC to an appropriately zoned location should be the number 1 priority. The reduction in noise in air pollution and the removal of trucks from the area would transform the place over night.
