South Dublin County Council - Traffic Calming Programme 2023 

Section 38 of the 1994 Road Traffic Act, a Road Authority may in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users provide such traffic calming measures as it considers desirable in respect of a public road in its charge. South Dublin County Council proposes to install traffic calming measures, subject to available funding at the following locations: -

 

Clondalkin, Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart and Brittas

  • Beechwood Lawns, Rathcoole junction tightening at two junctions within the estate .

         The construction of radius tightening at the 2no. junctions in line with DMURS

  • Cherrywood Crescent at its junction with Cherrywood Drive and Cherrywood Park.

          The construction of radius tightening at the above junctions in line with DMURS

  • Woodford Walk at the pedestrian crossing outside Boomers Bar

          Construction of a raised crossing point at the existing pedestrian crossing location

  • Junction of Commons Road (off Boot Road) and St John’s Ave

         Construction of a traffic calming island at this junction

  • St Johns Lawn at the roundabout with St Johns Drive and Park View Lawns

Construction of traffic calming islands in place of the existing hatched parkings at the Northern and Southern approaches to the roundabout

Lucan Palmerstown North Clondalkin

  • Moorfield Ave at its junction with the Main Road
  • Turret Road junction tightening at its junction with Wheatfield Road
  • Moorfield Drive junction tightening at its junction with Moorfield Ave
  • R835 on section of road near its junction with Tubber Lane - ramp
  • Esker Meadow – raised table at junction with Castle Road

Tallaght

  • Kilcronan Court, traffic calming island at entrance to estate
  • St Anthony’s Cresc Greenhills, traffic calming island at entrance to estate
  • Bawnlea Ave, traffic calming islands at entrance to estate and at T Junction within the estate
  • Raheen Park, junction tightening at entrance to road
  • Tymon N Park, removal of existing island
  • Cloonmore Ave, tightening of radii
  • Carrigmore Estate, Tallaght, traffic calming islands at junctions within the estate

Rathfarnham Templeogue Firhouse and Bohernabreena

  • Knocklyon Ave, raised tables at junctions with Knocklyon Mews and Kocklyon Park
  • Orchardstown Drive junction tightening at junction with Anne Devlin Road
  • Whitecliff Estate Rathfarnham, traffic calming island at 2no. junctions within the estate
  • Hermitage Park Rathfarnham traffic calming island at its junction Hermitage Ave
  • Glenvara Park, junction tightening at 2no. junctions within the estate
  • Mount Down Road, Manor Estate – junction tightening at entrance from R112.
  • Woodlawn Park Drive, junction tightening at junction with R114
  • Silverwood Drive, junction tightening at junction with Taylors Lane
  • Palmer Park, Ballyboden tightening at junction with Taylors Lane

 Submissions

Submissions can be made to  South Dublin Council Council’s consultation portal.  Each proposed location is listed.   Please indicate on any comments or submissions any specific location(s) to which your submission refers.   Once works commence they cannot be reversed. Your preference on the proposed traffic calming measure can be made as follows;

  • On South Dublin County Council’s Public Consultation Portal website http://consult.sdublincoco.ie  by midnight on 15th August 2023.
  • In writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Roads Department, Land Use, Planning and Transportation, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24, to be received on or before 5.00pm on 15th August 2023, simply stating the specific traffic calming locations to which you are referring .  Submissions should be clearly marked “Traffic Calming Programme 2023”.

Please make your submission by one of the above methods only.  Only submissions received as set out above will be considered.  Submissions cannot be accepted in any other format or to any other postal address or via the online portal.

All submissions received will be considered and will form part of the Chief Executive’s report on the public consultation process.

It should be noted that the Freedom of Information Act, 1997 -2006 (amended) applies to all records held by South Dublin County Council.
