Castletymon Road Active Travel Scheme

Overview:

South Dublin County Council (SDCC), in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA),isproposing sustainable transport improvements along and near Castletymon Road as part of the Castletymon Road Active Travel Scheme.

The Council’s Active Travel Section is conducting an informal public consultation for Castletymon Road Active Travel Scheme and welcomes all submissions and observations on the scheme as proposed. The scheme is being prepared in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994. 

 

Scheme Details:

Castletymon Road Active Travel Scheme will deliver high-quality walking and cycling infrastructure along Castletymon Road.

The proposed equitable distribution of the road will allow the delivery of 2-way traffic and for raised cycle tracks to be added to the edges of the road. The proposed improvement to junctions joining Castletymon Road will provide safe crossings and connections for walkers, cyclists, and motorists.

The proposed scheme is a key element of Cycle South Dublin (see Active Travel - SDCC) and will connect to the existing and planned network in South Dublin. Castletymon Road Active Travel Scheme will connect into the existing infrastructure on Main Street and the Dodder Greenway and into the future improvements to Greenhills Road.

Public transport users will benefit from upgraded bus stops along Castletymon Road as well as the improvements in connectivity through upgraded walking and cycling links to public transport services.

 

Your views matter:

The Council are seeking views from the public to help inform the scheme design. This informal public consultation has several links to drawing, sections and artist impressions and is being held on the scheme for four weeks.

Next Steps:

Following the close of this informal consultation period, the detailed design of the scheme will progress, informed by the submissions made by the public and stakeholders. Once the detailed design is completed a tender competition will be run and a construction contractor appointed to carry out the works.
