Tree Planting
Teideal:
Developing a Policy for Tree Planting

It is important to plant more trees in our Knocklyon Area.   There are many Green spaces of only grass .   It would be great to see some of these Green areas been planted with trees in a planned way.   The variety of trees used should include Fruit Trees and our native Irish trees as much as possible.    Planting alongside paths but not on top of them to provide shelter from rain or sun when needed.  Space can be left for possible youth games like soccer, GAA, Rounders.   The rest of the green space should be planned for tree planting, not to cover it with trees but to offer different types of trees.  Trees and hedging suitable for childrens play, maybe some trees that are particularly suitable and safe for climbing.    Trees that encourage wild life.   Hedging that will offer more biodiversity and support flora and fauna.

Tree Maintenance
Teideal:
Maintenance of our trees and hedges

Trees and hedging need a program of trimming and pruning.    In too many areas trees and hedges have been allowed to grow too much . They interfere and present hazards for people using footpaths.  This has become more apparent as people have spent more time walking in their local areas during Covid.   The Council needs to start a program of giving notice to hedging , trees, etc that overhang, encroach or stick out onto pathways.  All of this reduces the walking/cycling space on pathways ,making them more dangerous for the user.   Trees that are removed for whatever reason should be replaced as soon as possible.   Fruit trees that need Pruning or spraying need to be managed.  Dense planting like that in Cherryfield Park should be avoided as it does not offer an attractive area for residents

Action Plan
Teideal:
Development plan for Knocklyon

There should be a 5, 10, 20 year plans for the planting of Knocklyon area.   It is important to maintain the planting along the M50 to provide noise abatement and landscaping the motorway to lessen the Concrete impact in the area.    There should be a plan for all open areas.    A list of trees should be made available that are recommended for private dwellings to fit in with the tree plans for the area. THe use of Lelandia and other trees that grow too big or are a hazard in some regard should be discouraged. A program of planting to turn the area into a leafy paradise should be planned.
