To whom this concerns,
I formally would like to support the councillors decision to vote against the housing proposed for the outstandingly beautiful lands at St Edmundsbury Lucan.
These lands are home to multiple red list species many of which I have submitted to The Biodiversity Ireland observation site which are available to view. My bird observations include species on the RED LIST : Multiple late evening sightings of Barn owl flying low along hedgerows hunting, year round flocks of breeding yellow hammer with their distinctive call, winter flocks of feeding redwing, swift in smaller numbers every year, and regular sightings of grey wagtails. Birds on this list require high conservation! The list of amber species, or those that are of medium conservation concern seen on these unique lands include swallow in dwindling numbers, dunnock, house sparrows, starlings, green finch and in Winter Brambling flocks. Other protected species seen by myself include badgers.
It would be a crime to disturb this beautiful landscape and further actively encourage species depletion through habitat fragmentation.
This would be in direct contravention of EU policy to protect these species of concern through the biodiversity strategy for 2030. It is also in contravention of your own local environmental policies. This land needs further protection as previous generations have recognised.
Hopefully the wisdom of our local councillors will be recognised and their votes respected. I personally feel that the people of Lucan have been threatened by a builder from miles away in Cork who does not recognise that some places of outstanding worth are NOT suitable to be built on.
I personally feel that if this land is built on I will be obliged to file a complaint to the European Commission .
Hoping you will listen to the 1,800 people who have made a submission AGAINST the rezoning of St Edmundsbury lands. Yes we need housing but in the right places.
