As a resident of Lucan, I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed material alteration to retain St. Edmundsbury as High Amenity lands.
St. Edmundsbury is not just a plot of land; it is a vital green lung and an irreplaceable environmental, recreational, and visual asset for our rapidly growing community. Protecting it is essential for several key reasons:
1. A Vital Ecological Corridor
St. Edmundsbury is a crucial piece of the Liffey Valley landscape. Its mature woodlands, historic hedgerows, and open fields form a continuous green corridor that allows local wildlife to thrive. Allowing development here would fragment these delicate habitats, permanently damage biodiversity, and erase the natural character of the area.
2. Perfect Alignment with National Policy
Retaining this High Amenity zoning directly supports the core goals of the National Planning Framework (NPF). Specifically, it helps us:
- Strengthen green infrastructure within urban areas.
- Build climate resilience by preserving natural carbon sinks and flood-mitigating land.
