Objection to Synthetic Grass Sports Pitch

I am writing to object to the proposed installation of an Astro Turf pitch in Greenhills Park. This park has been successfully used for football and other recreational activities for many years without issue, and I see no need to introduce an artificial surface now.

While I appreciate efforts to promote sport, I believe that Greenhills Park is not the right location for such a development. There are hundreds of acres available in Tymon Park that would be far more suitable for an Astro Turf facility, without disturbing local residents.

My main concerns include:

  • Light pollution: The installation of floodlights would cause significant disruption to nearby homes, particularly during evening use.

  • Traffic and parking issues: Increased activity and events would bring more vehicles into the area, creating congestion and safety concerns for residents.

  • Loss of the park’s natural character: Greenhills Park is valued for its open green space and natural feel — replacing this with artificial turf would alter its character and reduce biodiversity.

In summary, while I support improving local sports facilities, I strongly believe that Greenhills Park should remain a natural grass space for the community. I urge the council to consider alternative locations such as Tymon Park, which are better suited for such developments.
