Overview:

South Dublin County Council In conjunction with the National Transport Authority, are proposing sustainable transport improvements in the Templeogue and Terenure areas as Phase 2 of the Templeville Road Cycle Scheme. This new network is intended to provide more sustainable transport options for commuters as well as active travel benefits for local communities.

The proposed scheme is a key element of Cycle South Dublin (see Active Travel - SDCC) and will connect to the existing and planned network in South Dublin. Route no. 30 of the Cycle South Dublin is the Templeville Road Cycle Route. Phase 2 of this scheme will provide cycle connectivity from Templeogue College to Dodder Greenway via Templeville Road. It is a 1km route that provides a better active travel link to local amenities, schools and parks for the community.

The Council’s Active Travel Section is conducting an informal public consultation for Templeville Road Cycle Scheme Phase 2 by presenting options to the public, indicating the emerging preferred options and welcomes all submissions and observations on the scheme as proposed. The scheme is being prepared in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994.

Scheme Details:

This project will repurpose the circa 10m wide existing carriageway to increase the cycle lanes width to 2m by reducing traffic lanes width to 3m, this will also calm traffic. A segregation kerb would be introduced to avoid the encroachment of vehicles into the cycle lane. The grass verges would be regraded if space was needed. The project also proposes the following:

  • Improvement to junctions along the route to provide safe crossings and connections for all road users.
  • ‘School zone’ on part of Fortfiield Road adjacent to Pope Pius X school.
  • Realignment of the roundabout at Wainsfort Road/Cypress Grove Road
The closing date has passed and submissions are no longer being accepted.
