South Dublin County Council is preparing an Arts Infrastructure Strategy 2026-2040 to guide the planning, development and management of arts infrastructure across the county over the next fifteen years. As one of Ireland's fastest-growing counties, South Dublin is experiencing significant population growth, major urban expansion and the emergence of new communities in areas such as Clonburris, Adamstown, Citywest and City Edge. This presents an important opportunity to plan for arts and cultural facilities that are accessible, inclusive and capable of supporting the creative needs of current and future generations.
Arts infrastructure includes the buildings, spaces and facilities that enable people to create, learn, participate in and experience the arts. These range from theatres, galleries and arts centres to artist workspaces, rehearsal rooms, community-based arts facilities and specialist arts venues. Arts infrastructure plays an important role in supporting artists and creative organisations, while also contributing to wellbeing, social inclusion, community development, placemaking and economic vitality.
The draft strategy sets out a long-term vision for the provision of arts infrastructure across South Dublin County. It identifies current strengths and gaps in provision, considers future needs arising from population growth and changing communities, and proposes a framework for future investment and development. The strategy has been informed by research, mapping of existing facilities and activities, consultation with artists and arts organisations, and analysis of local and national policy.
We now want to hear from the public. Your views will help to shape the final Arts Infrastructure Strategy and ensure that it reflects the needs, aspirations and priorities of people who live, work, learn and create in South Dublin County. Whether you are an artist, arts organisation, community group, young person, resident, business owner or someone who simply enjoys participating in the arts, your feedback is important.
This consultation seeks your views on the future of arts infrastructure in the county, including access to arts facilities, opportunities for participation, support for artists and creative practice, the development of new arts and cultural spaces, and the role of the arts in creating vibrant and connected communities.
