Consultation for the Scheme for the Establishment of Strategic Policy Committees

South Dublin County Council has prepared a Draft Scheme for the Establishment of Strategic Policy Committees for the term of the new Council 2019 to 2024.

The role of each of the Strategic Policy Committees is to assist the full Council in the formulation, development and review of policy in relation to functions of a strategic nature, subject to the relevant statutory framework. The Council is and remains the decision-making authority, and it is the task of the SPCs, as committees of the Council, to advise the Council in the context of policy formation and development.

Each SPC (there are six proposed) will provide advice and reports to the Council on any policy matter within their range of responsibilities. Background work, discussion and recommendations will be completed at SPC level before final consideration and ratification by the Council.

The following are the six Strategic Policy Committees proposed for South Dublin County Council:-

  • Economic Development, Enterprise & Tourism
  • Land use Transportation and Planning
  • Social and Community
  • Environment, Public Realm & Climate Change
  • Housing 
  • Arts, Culture, Gaeilge, Heritage and Libraries
