South Dublin County Council have initiated the Safe School Zone programme to delivery safety measures in front of schools across the county.

St. Ronan's National School in Deansrath are a candidate for such works. A travel survey was carried out at the school in April/May with the help of An Taisce’s SRTS programme and the results showed that a majority of participants were concerned about dangerous driver behaviour and safety at the school gates and supported works to calm traffic and improve visibility of the front of school area.

SDCC are proposing the following works in front of the school on St Cuthberts Road;

  • High Friction markings on the road at either end of the school front and signage to show drivers that they are entering a School Zone.
  • Coloured high friction roundels along the road surface to highlight the school frontage.
  • Upgrade to an existing ramp to create a raised table Type B Zebra crossing with associated RUS-066 type signs and tactile paving.
  • Two new speed ramps to reduce driver speed in the school zone.
  • Installation of pencil bollards to prevent parking at the school gate or close to the crossing.
  • Associated services, line marking, signage and works.

These works will be executed under Section 38 of the Roads Traffic Act 1994.
