The proposal to construct a footbridge rather than a bridge suitable for vehicles is a significant cause for concern.
Downgrading it to a footbridge would fail to provide the road connectivity residents were led to expect and would further increase traffic congestion in the remining exit points, and create bottlenecks within the development.
There is a growing perception that South Dublin County Council is pursuing policies aimed at discouraging car use without first providing residents with realistic alternatives. Such an approach might be understandable if the area were adequately served by public transport. However, residents currently face a lack of bus services and insufficient train capacity and frequency.
The proposed footbridge does not meet the expectations or the practical transport needs of the community.
I therefore strongly object to this proposal and urge the council to retain the originally anticipated vehicular bridge, while also improving public transport services in the area.
