Building More Homes Is Not the Solution for Lucan
Caibidil:
MA Finnstown Castle
Ábhair:
MA3.1

Lucan has experienced rapid and sustained growth over recent years, yet the infrastructure needed to support that growth has not kept pace. The area is already under significant pressure, and adding further housing without first addressing these shortcomings will only make existing problems worse.

Our roads are congested throughout the day, making even short journeys frustrating and unpredictable. Public transport is equally overstretched. Buses are frequently full and delayed as they sit in heavy traffic, while commuter trains are often already at capacity by the time they arrive at Adamstown. Residents are being asked to accept continued development without the transport network needed to support it.

Beyond infrastructure, Lucan is also losing the green spaces, heritage, and recreational areas that contribute to the character of the community and residents’ quality of life. These spaces cannot simply be replaced once they are built on.

The priority should now be improving transport links, expanding essential public services, and protecting the area’s remaining natural and historic assets. The Finnstown Castle lands provide environmental, recreational, and heritage value that benefits the entire community. Preserving them as High Amenity land will help ensure Lucan remains a balanced, liveable place, rather than becoming increasingly overdeveloped.
