Safety of Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna Pupils, Staff & Parents
While l broadly support this initiative l have serious health and safety concerns regarding the placement of a cycle track directly outside a school entrance. This will pose a serious health and safety risk when pupils, parents and staff are entering and exciting the school premises on a daily basis.
In an ideal world it should be possible to walk or cycle to school on a daily basis but unfortunately, due to work commitments, proximity to the school, etc, a lot of parents have no other option but to drive their children to school. This is unavoidable for some. Removing the drop off area will be a huge waste of tax payers money since is was only recently installed, but it will also lead to serious traffic congestion and the beginning and end of the school day. The ability to drop off and pick up from this area reduces parking in the surrounding areas. Moving the cycle lane to the other side of the road is the logical, cost effective and most importantly safe solution.
