I fully and strongly support MA3.1 to remove the proposal to rezone lands at Finnstown Castle for the following reasons:
- This should be a high amenity area as there has been significant development to surrounding lands and this land represents the last remaining natural habitat between the Newcastle roadside and Adamstown for wildlife and nature to thrive.
- This is an historical estate with a protected building. A planning application to build on these lands was rejected for one building as it would upset the setting of this protected building. What has changed to potentially allow 1,000 houses on the same lands?
- The road outside Finnstown Castle is already heavily congested with traffic from Newcastle and Adamstown.
- Finnstown Castle and surrounding areas is a 200-year-old estate which has historical significance in Lucan. It is a protected structure whose avenue, grounds and surrounding trees are preserved and individually tagged. If long term strategic development similar in scale to Adamstown is envisaged it cannot come at the cost of removing the last remaining green buffers.
