Observations

Support for the June decision by Councillors not to rezone Finnstown Castle lands

Ábhair:

I strongly support retaining the Finnstown Castle lands as High Amenity and oppose any future proposal to rezone these lands for residential development.

Finnstown Castle is one of Lucan's most significant historic estates and is a protected structure whose special character extends beyond the building itself to its historic grounds, mature trees and surrounding landscape. The open parkland setting forms an integral part of the castle's heritage value and should be protected for future generations.

The lands surrounding the castle represent one of the last remaining areas of open green space between Newcastle Road and Adamstown. They provide an important landscape buffer, support biodiversity and offer valuable recreational and visual amenity in an area that has experienced substantial development over recent decades.

Rather than being developed for housing, these lands should remain protected as High Amenity and, where appropriate, be incorporated into an extension of Tandy Park, providing an enduring public amenity while preserving one of Lucan's most important historic landscapes and environmental assets.
