I wish to submit this formal objection to any proposal to rezone the lands at St. Edmundsbury for residential development, and to confirm my full endorsement of Material Alteration MA6.1 to retain the lands under their proper High Amenity (HA) zoning. The St. Edmundsbury estate is an irreplaceable landscape asset within the River Liffey corridor, providing essential habitats for local wildlife, mature woodland, and natural surface water drainage that protects Lucan Village from increased flood risk. Constructing housing on this sensitive historic demesne would permanently damage the area’s visual character and heritage setting while overloading an already strained local infrastructure. The surrounding road network, including the N4 and Lucan Village arterial routes, is routinely gridlocked, and essential services such as schools and medical facilities are operating at capacity. Given that substantial residential growth is already allocated to designated development areas at Clonburris and Adamstown, building on protected greenfield land at St. Edmundsbury is both environmentally destructive and planning-wise unjustified. I strongly call on South Dublin County Council to adopt Material Alteration MA6.1 in full and protect the High Amenity status of St. Edmundsbury, now and for generations to come!
