Support in favour of proposal to retain St Edmundsbury as high amenity lands.
As a life long Lucan resident I would like to to express my strong support to the proposal to maintain the lands at St Edmundsbury as High Amenity lands.
The environmentally sensitive area of St. Edmundsbury is an area rich in biodiversity, supporting a wide range of flora and fauna and borders the beautiful Special Amenity Area of the Liffey Valley. It is a highly valued resource for the local community and plays a vital role in maintaining the character and environmental quality of the Lucan area.
Maintaining this green connection is essential for safeguarding biodiversity, landscape value, and public amenity in the wider Liffey Valley. Numerous studies have shown access to green spaces such as those at St Edmundsbury improves both the physical and mental health of communities.
Maintaining St Edmundsbury as High Amenity lands delivers on several of the National Planning Framework priorities including enhance amenity, preserve heritage, transition to a climate resilient society, biodiversity, climate action, the importance of high-quality “sense of space” and community wellbeing, to name but a few.
I believe maintaining St Edmundsbury’s High Amenity designation will protect, for future generations, the valuable ecosystem the area supports which includes birds (bats, buzzards, red kites, yellow hammers, etc.), animals (shrews, badgers, pine martins, etc.) and plant life (oaks, beech tress, wild garlic, wood anemones, etc.).
