Support for June 2026 decision NOT TO Rezone as residential
I strongly support the decision of the majority of elected members of SDCC NOT to proceed with the proposed residential zoning of the Finnstown Castle lands.
These lands are not essential to meet Government targets under the revised National Planning Framework, but are highly important in their contribution to biodiversity, Green infrastructure and amenity in the greater South Lucan/Adamstown area.
If this heatwave summer of 2026 is to teach us anything, it is the critical importance of substantial green, shaded areas in our urban design. Protection of Finnstown Castle's current mature landscape would demonstrate SDCC 's commitment to the National Planning Policy of giving greater weight to landscape and biodiversity.
Therefore, I respectfully request that SDCC elected members uphold their June 2026 decision on these lands and give strong consideration to the incorporation of these lands into an extended Tandy's Lane Park.
