I wish to support the decision of the Elected Members to reject the proposed rezoning of the lands at Finnstown Castle from Open Space (OS) to Residential (Res-N), as set out in the original proposed Variation No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028, and as put on public display between 13th February 2026 and 13th March 2026.
At the Special Council meetings held on the 19th and 24th June 2026, it was resolved by the Elected Members to alter Variation No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 and reject the zoning proposed in relation to MA3 Finnstown Castle.
I support the retention of the existing land use zoning (OS) and the development of public amenities on these lands. The lands forming the curtilage of Finnstown House form part of a mature landscape with a significant number of mature parkland trees, in particular, located along the boundary with Tandy’s Lane but also present throughout the lands.
There is an opportunity here to not only retain an historic landscape but to provide recreational open space to meet the rapidly expanding population in the surrounding area and to allow connection between existing communities to the east of the R120 with Tandy’s Lane Park to the west.
I therefore respectfully request that the Elected Members' decision be upheld and that amendment ref no.MA3 be removed from Variation No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028.
