Playspace Consultation - Clondalkin

Oscailte2 Már, 2026, 14:00 - 27 Már, 2026, 17:00

South Dublin County Council is inviting you to take part in a survey about play in your area.

Play is a fundamental human right.  It is also a huge part of growing up and is essential for children’s health, happiness and development. Compared to previous generations children growing up in urban areas are spending less time playing outdoors and have less freedom to roam. This has led to lower activity levels, rising childhood obesity rates, poorer fitness, increased anxiety and mental health issues and fewer chances for children to meet, mix and develop social skills.

We want to change that.

Following the adoption of our new Play Policy, the Council is committed to making sure that all children growing up in South Dublin have access to good quality play spaces close to where they live.

For this consultation, we are focusing first on areas that our mapping shows have lower access to play facilities. We want to hear from people living in these communities so we can better understand what is needed and where improvements should be made. If there is clear demand in an area, the Council can then move forward with proposals through the Part 8 planning process.

We are beginning our consultation in the following six areas:

  • Cookstown/Springfield

  • Belgard Heights

  • Clondalkin

  • Templeogue

  • Knocklyon

  • Palmerstown

Our research shows that children living in these areas currently have less access to play facilities compared to other parts of the county.

Your feedback will help us plan future play spaces and make sure investment goes where it is needed most.
