INTRODUCTION
Clondalkin is growing and a new local area plan is being prepared to manage this growth.
The local area plan (LAP) will cover housing, movement and transport, community facilities, public spaces, biodiversity, economic development, heritage and climate action.
The Clondalkin Local Area Plan will work alongside the actions in SDCC’s Climate Action Plan.
A first round of public consultation took place in March-May 2023 and the key issues raised by the public and the community related to:
- Movement and Transport
- Social and Community Facilities
- Culture and Heritage
- Environment, Biodiversity and Planting

We are now here
Work is being undertaken to prepare a draft LAP having regard to the issues you identified and to how we address growth in Clondalkin including development on lands behind the Mill Shopping Centre and along the Naas Road.
How population growth, and housing to meet that growth, will be integrated into the existing village and surrounding areas is a key consideration. There is potential for Clondalkin to accommodate approximately 1,500 housing units over the plan period and beyond. We need to ensure that as Clondalkin grows we can integrate key assets including heritage, green infrastructure and local business while having sufficient community and other facilities. All the time ensuring we improve accessibility to meet the growing needs.
SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS
Preliminary proposals using three scenarios as a way of looking at the priorities for growth, have been developed for you to comment on. We would like to hear your feedback on these by completing this online survey. The image below shows the stages of the survey that you will able to complete when logged in.
To view the scenarios and other proposals and to input your thoughts, please register on this portal or, if you already have an account, login to complete the survey.
How long will it take to do this survey?
The survey can take as much or as little time as you need. It is quite straightforward and is generally focused on two questions, with an option to comment on the different scenarios. You do not have to complete the survey in one sitting. Once you have registered, you may save your response as a draft, and retrieve it later from your profile pages.
As described in the introduction, there are three Scenarios presented, each of which puts a different emphasis on the priorities for growth as follows:
- Emphasis on Local Vitality
- Emphasis on a Healthy Environment
- Emphasis on Heritage
There is also opportunity to comment on a Movement Scenario for the village centre.
This is followed by you being able to comment on the issues and recommendations emerging from the preparation of a draft Conservation Plan.
Along the way we will include some supporting documentation where we think it will help you to provide feedback. We look forward to hearing your views and thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey.
