South Dublin County Council have initiated the Safe School Zone programme to delivery safety measures in front of schools across the county.
Talbot Senior NS in Bawnogue, Clondalkin are a candidate for such works. An interview with the principal and a site analysis was carried out in April/May 2026. It was noted that there is a concerned about dangerous driver behaviour and safety at the school gates, and supported works to calm traffic and improve visibility of the front of school area.
SDCC are proposing the following works in front of the school on Lealand Road:
Traffic Calming at school gates:
Build out to extent footpath at school gate and prevent parking at directly school gate/crossing point.
New Type B raise table zebra crossing, RUS-066 signage and tactile paving, pending detail review of driveway location.
Installation of pencil bollards to prevent parking at the school gate and close to the crossing.
High Friction markings on the road at either end of the school front and signage to show drivers that they are entering a School Zone.
Coloured high friction roundels along the road surface to highlight the school frontage.
Removal of 1-2 street trees, near school entrances
Associated services, line marking, signage and works.
These works will be executed under Section 38 of the Roads Traffic Act 1994
