Under Section 38 of the 1994 Road Traffic Act, a Road Authority may in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users provide such traffic calming measures as it considers desirable in respect of a public road in its charge. South Dublin County Council (SDCC), in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) are working with AtkinsRéalis consulting engineers on a design to facilitate improved safety features for pedestrians along the N7 Junction 4 off slip.
This scheme proposes to address the concerns over pedestrians crossing the N7 Junction 4 eastbound off-slip. This concern was raised by members of the public, in relation to the lack of safety when attempting to cross the slip road towards the bus stop, noting regular heavy traffic along the off-slip.
Scheme Objectives:
• To enhance pedestrian safety through the N7 Junction 4 Eastbound off-slip
• Increase bus stop accessibility at the concerned location.
Proposed Design
The proposed design involves the implementation of a signalised pedestrian crossing before (west of) the roundabout. This will allow pedestrians to safely cross the road at the designated crossing point and require traffic to stop on a red signal. This offers a regulated method for pedestrians to signal their intentions to cross and ensuring pedestrian safety at the crossing point.
The proposed works in this scheme will all remain within the existing boundary (generally the existing grass verge) - no land take will be necessary.
The plans and particulars of the proposed measures are available for inspection online on the Council’s Public Consultation Portal website (http://consult.sdublincoco.ie) during the period from Thursday, September 5th to Thursday, October 3rd 2024.
