Car Parking Tymon Park

South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2022 – 2028
Templeogue, Walkinstown, Rathfarnham, Firhouse, Tallaght.
WORK Residents Association welcomes the invitation to make submissions to the County Development Plan 2022 – 2028.
Tymon Park is widely recognised as a fantastic asset on the doorstep of many communities in the South Dublin Council area. The increased number of people of all ages who visit it (especially during the COVID pandemic) to take their daily walk, run or cycle is testament to that recognition. Teams from St. Jude’s GAA Club, Faugh’s GAA Club, Templeogue United F.C. use the pitches to train their teams and play matches against visiting teams seven days a week. The children’s playground off Wellington Lane is a constant hive of activity. The all-weather pitch also attracts users throughout the week.
The downside of all of this activity is the absence of adequate parking facilities within the park to cater for its increased use. This is even more evident since the COVID cycle lanes were installed on Wellington Lane in early August, 2020. One of the consequences of this development is that motorists can no longer park on Wellington Lane nor on the grass margins inside the cycle lanes and, finding the existing car parks full, they resort to parking in residential areas causing all manner of safety issues for residents and other road users.
WORK Residents Association calls on the Council to provide extra car parking facilities within Tymon Park with the entrance being located at the existing traffic lights on Limekiln Road at its junction with Limekiln Avenue. This new car park would service the needs of those who use the football pitches at the Limekiln end of Tymon Park and would also facilitate the parents / guardians of the children being dropped and collected at Riverview Educate Together National School.
WORK Residents Association is aware of the plans for the Poddle Flood Alleviation Scheme and though we are not sure as to the exact location of the machinery depot for those flood alleviation works we think it would be prudent for the Council to consider converting this depot into a car park when the works are over (provided the location would meet the needs as we have outlined). The existing car park on Limekiln Road is often full and unfortunately is considered by visitors to be too distant from the pitches.
While WORK Residents Association is making this submission to the County Development Plan 2022 – 2028 we consider that the provision of this car park is urgent and ought to be considered as soon as possible.
