The development plan for SDCC should have an objective to have the metro, currently being planned to the airport and Swords, extended to the SDCC area. Because of enormous level of objection, the previous plan to run this metro along the line of the existing Luas to Ranelagh and Sandyford is being abandoned. Rather than terminate the airport line in the city centre, it should now be extended to some point in SDCC between the Luas ternminus in Tallaght and the county boundary. If a line is plotted from St Stephen's Green to say Firhouse, the current catchment population is close to 150,000. This is in fact greater than the population along the existing southside Luas line, with far greater potential to increase catchment population. Further the Firhouse area has a similar population to Swords, so equally justifies metro provision.
Current plans to serve the area of South Dublin to the east of Tallaght solely by bus are inadequate and inevitably reach a pinch point in Terenure village or at KCR. A metro is the only way to provide sustainable transport to south west Dublin
