Canoeing has taken part in the Lucan Demesne since the 1960s, The Grade 10 kayak club used it in the 70s, and today the park hosts Lucan Kayak Club. In 1988 a major European Cup race was held there. The Liffey Descent has been passing through for 61 years. The area is always busy with kayakers from novice to international athletes.
