Please accept this submission of my views on the Proposed Material Alterations to the Proposed Variation No2 to the South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2022-2028.
I object to the proposal to rezone lands at St Edmundsbury for residential purposes due to a few reasons.
1. St Edmundsbury is a vital green space for locals and visitors to walk and enjoy the scenery. It is a hugely important space for local people to support their wellbeing. Fresh air and being out in nature is one of the major indicators of positive wellbeing. Rezoning this land for the proposed purpose would remove this vital infrastructure and critically affect the health of the locals.
2. St Edmundsbury is a critical space for growing flora and fauna. Building residential spaces would critically endanger their lives. It is a vital ecosystem and in the age of climate importance, it would be disappointing and disgraceful to threaten the wildlife living in St Edmundsbury.
3. Lucan is already a growing population full of new residential spaces. I don't believe we need another housing development as the services and infrastructure needs to be provided first. Services such as public transport and infrastructure such as schools and under-resources youth facilities need a major revamp before more residential spaces are built.
I urge the Council to take a balanced community- focused approach to future development.
