I support the protection of Finnstown Castle and its surrounding landscape.

The grounds surrounding Finnstown Castle are an important green space within Lucan, providing mature trees, wildlife habitat and a natural landscape that is increasingly rare in growing suburban communities. Protecting these lands supports biodiversity, strengthens ecological corridors and contributes to climate resilience.

As Lucan continues to grow, accessible green spaces become even more important. They improve physical and mental wellbeing, provide opportunities for walking and recreation, reduce urban heat, improve air quality and help manage flood risk.

The beauty of Finnstown Castle and its surrounding landscape gives Lucan a unique sense of place. Mature landscapes cannot be replaced once they are lost. New planting takes generations to achieve the same ecological and visual value.

The National Planning Framework recognises the importance of protecting green infrastructure, biodiversity and landscapes that enhance community wellbeing. Preserving Finnstown Castle and its natural setting will ensure that future generations inherit a suburb that balances development with nature.

I respectfully ask South Dublin County Council to protect both Finnstown Castle and its surrounding green landscape as an essential part of Lucan's natural, historic and environmental heritage.
