I Ciaran Byrne, welcome the decision of the elected members of South Duboin County Council to reject theproposed residential rezoning of St. Edmundbury lands, and I ask that htis decision be maintained and not overturned. 

I suppor the delivery of homes in South Dublin and recpgnise that we are in the midst of a husing crisis but I firmly believe that building on this land is not the solution - but rather higher denisites of housing should be build closer to the city where more amenities are avilaable and the '15 minute city concept' is supported. Just because we can build houses on a particular site does not mean we should and I believe St Edmundsbury is not the right location for new houses. 

The Councils own figures show that the revised National Planning Framework baseline housing requirement has already been met. The overal package of proposed rezoning in SDCC provides approximately 30% mre residential capacity that the Governments baseline requirement. 

As a result there is no planning necessity to remove the existing High Amenity (HA-LV) zoning from St Edmundsburylands in order to coplay with housing policy. 

Maintining the existing high amenity zoing achieves an appropriate balance between meeting housing needs and protecting one of the countries most important environmental and landscape assets. 

Additionally - one of the biggest sources of Co2 emissions comes from the transport sector and private cars specifically. If we continue to build low density housing in suburban areas we will continue to perpetuate the need for people to own and drive (multiple) cars thereby further driving up outr C02 emissions and moving Ireland further away from compliance with statutory targets and towards significant fines. Not to mention the impact this would have on already congested roads. The Lucan area is extremelt congested and this is only going to go one direction when the homes which are being built in the likes of Adams town and Balcurris start to come onstram. It will have a deterimental impact on the daily lives of people living in and around the greater Lucan area. 

For this and many other reasons I would request that elected members decision in respect of St Edmundsbury be upheld. 

We need to have peopleliving in higher densities in city areas where the need for private vehicles is much reduced - the 15 min city.
