I wish to support the decision of the Elected Members to reject the proposed rezoning of lands at
St. Edmundsbury from High Amenity, HA (LV) to Residential, (Res – N), as set out in the original proposed Variation
No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028, and as put on public display between 13th
February 2026 and 13th March 2026.
At the Special Council meetings held on the 19th and 24th June 2026, it was resolved by the Elected
Members to alter Variation No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 and reject the
zoning change proposed in relation to MA6 St. Edmundsbury.
The Liffey Valley represents one of the county’s most important landscape and ecological corridors. Rezoning the St. Edmundsbury lands would compromise the long-term vision for a Liffey Valley National Park, weaken the protection of this strategic amenity area and likely lead to further re-zoning pressures on lands bordering the SAAO. Consideration should instead be given to extending the Special Amenity Area designation to include these lands, thereby strengthening landscape protection and biodiversity objectives.
I therefore respectfully request that the Elected Members' decision be upheld and that amendment ref
no.MA6 be removed from Variation No. 2 to the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028.
