Submission regarding the proposed rezoning of lands at St Edmundsbury Lucan
Caibidil:
MA St. Edmundsbury
Ábhair:
MA6.1

As a father of two girls, I understand the urgent need for more housing, but there has to be a balance between the built and natural landscape. 36% of all planned housing capacity in the SDCC area of operations is located in the Lucan, Adamstown and Clonburris area, the rezoning of the lands at St Edmundsbury is not necessary for SDCC to meet their National Planning Framework baseline housing requirement.

The lands at St Edmundsbury are of huge environmental and historical importance to the people of Lucan, it's a unique area and once it's gone, it cannot be replicated. There is a general acceptance now that with climate change we are going to experience an increase in extreme weather events. To build on such huge area with a potential for flood water storage, attenuation and cleaning seems to me to be contrary to good planning and sustainable development.

I am asking SDCC to uphold the elected members decision and that the existing status of St Edmundsbury be retained.
