The Coldcut lands have the potential to become one of the most important community assets in South Dublin. This is an opportunity to create a space that is genuinely inclusive and accessible to everyone—children and young people, families, older people, people with disabilities and future generations.

The site could provide a permanent home for local sporting organisations, including football clubs, boxing clubs and other community groups that are currently searching for suitable facilities. It could also become a centre for recreation, wellbeing and inclusion, with accessible walking routes, open green spaces, sports facilities and community services all in one location.

Should the golf course ever be sold or redeveloped, I believe every effort should be made to retain the football pitches for community use and to explore opening the golf course as a publicly accessible recreational facility. The existing clubhouse could be transformed into a café, restaurant or multi-purpose community hub, providing a welcoming space for local residents and visitors while also supporting programmes for people with disabilities, older people and community organisations.

Importantly, these facilities could also generate income to help sustain the site into the future. A combination of sporting facilities, community events, recreational activities and hospitality could create a model that benefits both the local economy and the wider community.

Opportunities like this are exceptionally rare. Once this land is lost to development, it cannot be replaced. South Dublin County Council has a genuine opportunity to create something meaningful—something that will serve not only the people of today, but generations to come. I respectfully ask the Council to seize this opportunity and ensure that the future of the Coldcut lands leaves a lasting legacy of inclusion, recreation, health and community pride.
