Submission on Proposed Rezoning of St Edmundsbury, Lucan

I support retaining St Edmundsbury, Lucan as High Amenity Lands for the following reasons.

Successive South Dublin County Development Plans have consistently recognised St Edmundsbury and the wider Liffey Valley as a landscape of exceptional heritage, environmental and recreational importance. Council policy has long promoted public access, green infrastructure, heritage protection and the vision of a regional park, recognising the unique value of these lands.

As a Lucan resident, my family regularly walks these beautiful lands and has experienced first-hand their rich environmental beauty, mature woodlands, wildlife and tranquillity. In an increasingly urbanised area, St Edmundsbury provides a rare opportunity for people to connect with nature and enjoy an exceptional landscape that contributes greatly to the health and wellbeing of the local community.

St Edmundsbury also contains protected structures and forms part of an irreplaceable historic demesne landscape that is central to Lucan’s identity and the character of the Liffey Valley. Once these lands are rezoned and developed, their unique heritage, biodiversity and amenity value cannot be recreated.

As Lucan continues to expand, the importance of preserving significant green spaces becomes even greater. Future generations deserve the same opportunity to experience these remarkable lands and their natural beauty.

I respectfully urge South Dublin County Council to retain St Edmundsbury as High Amenity Lands, preserving this exceptional environmental, heritage and recreational asset in the public interest for current and future generations.
