As a person who grew up playing for Greenhills Boys, suffering 3/4 months every winter sitting at home missing out on playing and training due to the park being waterlogged, I would strongly suggest that SDCC ignore the ridiculous NIMBY acting on behalf of the older residents of the area and build what is a badly needed amenity in an area which the population is gradually becoming younger.

The fact that most objections suggest “moving the pitches to Tymon Park” confirms the not in my backyard element of the complaints. Wanting a club who have been an integral part of Greenhills for over 50 years to just pack up and move to Tymon Park (where there are already other clubs playing) because there might be a light on in the park til 10pm is a ridiculous and frankly disgusting attitude to your own community’s club.

As the park is currently set up, next to nobody uses the grass areas that the pitches are taking up, there is plenty of path space and other grass areas for dog walking, wildlife etc, and even better yet, the wildlife will find plenty of space in the famous Tymon Park that everyone suggests the pitch should move to.

In summary it would be mental in 2025 for the council to reject an amenity which would benefit both youth and adults in the community and surrounding areas for decades to come for fear of a few residents complaining that there is a bit of noise in a public park.

Full support to everyone at Greenhills FC, you deserve this for the decades of amazing service you’ve given to your community and I hope SDCC recognise this too.
