Astro turf is a threat to biodiversity and impacts natural habitats.   Since 2000 over 220 acres of open space in Dublin have been replaced with artificial sports pitches impacting vital grasslands.  The EU is set to ban the sale of the material used in astroturf pitches,  The Climate Action Senior Executive Officer in South Dublin should be protecting our urban parks from the negative environmental impacts including microplastic pollution.
