It is not clear from the plans whether the short section of road connecting Braemor Road and Dodder Road Lower will remain two-way. It is critical that this section of road remain two-way for vehicles so that residents of Dodder Road Lower (#22 to #92) can continue to access our homes from both ends of the road.
Considerably more design work is needed for the Pedestrian crossings and indeed the whole intersection of pedestrians/cycles/vehicles at the T-junction at the rear of Ely arch, crossing over to Dodder park. The currently plans are no longer up to date since the landscaping work that has already occurred around Ely arch. A signal controlled crossing to dodder park would work best as it is currently very difficult to cross that road during rush hour when cars are travelling at high speeds (far in excess of the speed limit). A re-think of this whole junction is needed to make it clear where pedestrians and cyclists need to go and to give them both priority over cars. Take measures to slow down the cars and give pedestrians and cyclists priority and make this a slow zone for cars.
Calling this a 'rapid deployment' is a joke. The proposal is pretty much to place bolt-down rubber kerbs along the middle of the existing road and turn one vehicle lane into a two-way cycle path. This is short sighted and completely unnecessary. A two-way cycle lane, two way vehicle carriage-way and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road is achievable within the available space. The total width of the road is no less than the residential section of Dodder road lower where such a layout has already been implemented. This section of Dodder road lower should be completed to the same standards as the residential section of Dodder road lower that has already been completed. (The idea that the loss of a very small section of green verge is somehow a non-sustainable/green solution is nonsense given the additional vehicle journey times and associated carbon output that would result from the current proposal). Taking traffic off a non-residential road and instead diverting it along a residential road (Braemor park) is ridiculous, unnecessary and a danger to those residents. Keep this non-residential section of Dodder road lower two-way for vehicles AND introduce a two-way cycle path.
