Under Section 38 of the 1994 Road Traffic Act, a Road Authority may in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users provide such traffic calming measures as it considers desirable in respect of a public road in its charge. South Dublin County Council, in conjunction with National Transport Authority (NTA) proposes to undertake pedestrian improvements on R405, Athgoe, Newcastle South, County Dublin between Bus Stops: 12206 & 12207.
Scheme
The W6 Orbital bus route launched in November 2024. This enhanced service merged the W61 and W62 routes, offering improved public transport links to key areas including Maynooth, Celbridge, Hazelhatch, Newcastle, Saggart and Tallaght.
Two new bus stops on the W6 route are currently under design to serve the west of Newcastle, at St Finian’s Way. To link these two new stops, a raised controlled “Zebra” crossing is proposed on the R405 Athgoe, shown on the location map adjacent
